Senator Abba Moro, who represents Benue South and serves as Senate minority leader, has reaffirmed his loyalty to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), declaring that he has no plans to defect.
Moro made this known on Wednesday during a consultative meeting with the PDP National Working Committee (NWC), led by Kabiru Turaki.
Amid ongoing defections from the opposition party this year, Moro maintained that he and other dedicated members would not be forced out by pressure or political intimidation.
“I want to make it clear, Mr Chairman, that many of us here are neither poor nor desperate politicians. We are in the PDP to stay,” he said.
“We are not in the PDP merely to win elections, nor are we obsessed with 2027. No amount of intimidation will drive us out of the party.”
Describing the PDP as Nigeria’s only viable platform for democratic governance, the Senate minority leader called on the newly elected NWC to work closely with party leaders to strengthen unity and cohesion.
With the national convention concluded, Moro said the responsibility now rests on the NWC to steady and rebuild the party, describing the task before them as enormous.
In his response, Kabiru Turaki assured members that efforts are underway to reposition the party.
“Our mission is to rescue this country from anti-democratic forces and protect our multiparty democracy. The 2027 elections are about Nigerians, not defections,” Turaki said.
He praised Moro and other PDP senators for their “principled position,” referring to them as key pillars of the party.
Also speaking, Chairman of the PDP Board of Trustees (BoT), Adolphus Wabara, commended the party for the successful national convention held in Ibadan, Oyo State, and pledged the BoT’s full support for the Turaki-led NWC.
Wabara added that early signs suggest the party is being repositioned, with structures strengthened and confidence gradually restored nationwide, stressing that unity, reconciliation, and healing remain crucial.
