The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ondo State has taken a swipe at Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa following the reported death of a teenager allegedly struck by the governor’s convoy.
The party claimed that the victim, identified as Good Emiju, was knocked down at Oka-Akoko, the headquarters of Akoko South-West Local Government Area, during Aiyedatiwa’s thank-you tour of communities in the council.
In a statement issued by its Director of Media and Public Communications, Wande Ajayi, the PDP faulted the governor for what it described as his silence over the incident and raised concerns about the alleged hurried burial of the deceased.
Ajayi said the party is demanding a clear and transparent explanation from the state government, stressing that the continued silence is unacceptable, insensitive, and disrespectful to the memory of the young man and his family.
According to the PDP, credible accounts indicate that the victim was first taken to the General Hospital in Oka-Akoko, where medical personnel reportedly could not adequately handle the case due to the poor state of the facility. He was later transferred to the Federal Medical Centre, Owo, where he was confirmed dead. The party added that the teenager has since been buried without any official briefing to the public.
“To date, no statement has been issued to inform the public, clarify the facts, or explain how a citizen lost his life in connection with a government convoy,” the PDP said.
Meanwhile, Governor Aiyedatiwa has denied any link between his convoy and the incident.
In a statement released through his Special Adviser on Communication and Strategy, Allen Sowore, the governor said his convoy was neither responsible for nor involved in any accident during the thank-you tour.
“It is pertinent to categorically state that the governor’s convoy was not involved in any accident on that day or at any time since the commencement of the thank-you tour across the 18 local government areas of the state,” the statement read.
