The Imo State Government has closed down a hotel and a private mortuary in Umuhu Autonomous Community, Ngor-Okpala, after they were allegedly used as hideouts by kidnappers and other violent criminals.
The operation, conducted on Saturday, December 6, 2025, uncovered decomposed and mutilated bodies stored in poor conditions, prompting suspicions of illegal organ-harvesting activities.
Commissioner of Police Aboki Danjuma led a team including the Commissioner for Health, the Chief Pathologist of the Imo State Specialist Hospital, the Ngor Okpala Vigilante Group, and the Chairman of Ngor Okpala LGA to inspect the sites.
According to the Police Command spokesperson, the facilities belong to a suspect, Stanley Morocco Oparaugo, who is currently on the run.
The police statement explained that the inspection followed credible intelligence linked to the suspect. After the discovery of the bodies, the State Government ordered both the hotel and mortuary to be sealed. A search of the suspect’s residence also yielded key exhibits, which forensic experts have secured.
The Commissioner of Police assured residents that everyone involved in the crimes would be tracked down and prosecuted. Oparaugo has been declared wanted, and members of the public with information are urged to contact the nearest police station or call 0803 477 3600.
The Command added that maximum security has been deployed along the Owerri–Aba Expressway to ensure safe travel during the holiday period.
