Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has opened up on why he left the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Earlier this week, the governor officially announced his defection from the opposition party to the ruling APC.
Speaking at Government House, Port Harcourt, on Friday after receiving his APC membership card from the party’s chairman, Chief Tony Okocha, Fubara said his move was intended to support President Bola Tinubu’s bid for re-election.
The governor described his defection as a “spiritual assignment,” adding that joining the APC would help strengthen Rivers State’s relationship with the President.
“This is truly a spiritual assignment because it concerns the safety, progress, and development of Rivers State,” he said.
“We cannot be heading in one direction while the President is heading in another. Joining the APC is part of our commitment to build a seamless working relationship and contribute meaningfully to his re-election efforts in Rivers State.”
Governor Fubara thanked the APC leadership for their warm welcome, emphasizing that his decision was made for the stability and advancement of the state.
He also promised to consolidate the party’s structure in Rivers State, assuring full support for its members and executives.
“This is now your home, Mr Chairman. You are welcome anytime. We will ensure the APC remains active and fully functional in Rivers State, and every need of the party will be addressed,” he added.
