Afrobeats star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has asserted that the Nigerian music industry would be dull without his presence.
Taking to X, he wrote, “Imagine no Davido… Sh*t [the music industry] would have been boring AF.”
His comment sparked mixed reactions online, with many suggesting he might be overstating his impact on the industry.
This is not the first time Davido has described himself as central to Nigerian music. In an April 2025 interview with Apple Music, he said the industry “shut down” when he took a break from social media in November 2022 following the tragic death of his son, Ifeanyi Adeleke. He added that both fans and critics urged him to return during his three-month hiatus.
Davido rose to prominence in 2011 with his hit single Dami Duro, at a time when the Nigerian music scene was seeing the emergence of young Afrobeats stars like Wizkid.
Recently, veteran producer Samkleff commented that Davido’s rise brought rivalry and toxicity into the industry, claiming that there had previously been more mutual respect among Nigerian artists.
