A Change.org petition calling for the deportation of rapper Nicki Minaj from the United States has attracted widespread attention following her recent appearance at a Turning Point USA event hosted by conservative activist Erika Kirk.
The petition, titled “Deport Nicki Minaj to Trinidad,” surpassed 70,000 signatures shortly before the New Year, highlighting growing backlash from critics unhappy with the artiste’s perceived political stance. On social media, some detractors have mockingly referred to her as “Nicki MAGAJ,” accusing her of aligning with far-right views.
The campaign was reportedly launched by an individual using the pseudonym “Pedonika Minaj,” a controversial name critics say was chosen to draw attention to past controversies involving Minaj’s husband, Kenneth Petty. The petition references Petty’s previous legal issues and criticises Minaj for publicly defending him, as well as revisiting allegations that she harassed his accusers—claims she has consistently denied.
Minaj has also faced renewed scrutiny this year following a highly publicised dispute with Jay-Z and his label, Roc Nation, which critics cited in the petition as further evidence of what they describe as erratic behaviour.
Despite the attention, the petition holds no legal weight, and there is no indication that U.S. authorities or officials in Trinidad and Tobago are considering any such action. Minaj has not publicly responded, while media efforts to obtain comments from Trinidad and Tobago’s government are reportedly ongoing.
