Prince Harry ‘wins Government review over request for 24-hour armed police protection’

The Duke of Sussex has reportedly succeeded in securing a Home Office review of the security measures provided to him during visits to the UK.

This marks a significant breakthrough after years of disputes over his police protection following his departure from the royal family. Harry had written to Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood seeking a fresh risk assessment after experiencing a security scare during his visit in September.

According to The Sun, the Home Office has now ordered a review of the decision that removed his round-the-clock armed police protection. It will be the first time in six years that the Royal and VIP Executive Committee (Ravec) has agreed to revisit the matter.

If the ruling goes in Harry’s favour, it could clear the way for Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet to finally meet their grandfather, King Charles, in person.

Harry has previously expressed frustration over losing his security detail “overnight” after stepping back from royal duties, saying he remained a high-risk individual. After losing his appeal against the Home Office in May, he told the BBC he believed the situation was an “establishment stitch-up.”

He also suggested the dispute contributed to a breakdown in communication with the King, though the two reconnected in September after nearly two years without contact.

Two separate security breaches during his latest UK trip prompted Harry to write to the new Home Secretary.

“The UK government’s protective security system is rigorous and proportionate,” a government spokesperson said. “We do not disclose detailed information about these arrangements, as doing so could undermine their effectiveness and compromise individuals’ safety.”

The case is currently under review, with a decision expected next month.
