Miss Laura Iyama has been named the Virgin Girl of the Year at the 2025 Iria festival held in Ogu Kingdom, in the Okrika Local Government Area of Rivers State.
The Iria ceremony—an ancient and highly respected rite of passage for young maidens across Ijaw communities—took place on Saturday, December 6, 2025.
Following a closely contested selection among the participating maidens, Miss Iyama emerged the winner and received the honorary title of Oguapu Tonye for 2025.
She has since been celebrated for embodying the cultural grace, dignity, and strength traditionally associated with Izon women.
