Nigeria’s First Lady, Remi Tinubu, has dismissed criticisms surrounding her exchange with Osun State governor, Ademola Adeleke, describing the reactions as “unnecessary controversy.”
In a Facebook post on Tuesday, Mrs Tinubu said that people often exaggerate trivial moments and create distractions for those in leadership. She wrote:
“Those entrusted with leadership know their responsibilities and how to guide society. Too often, followers and critics examine every move, inflate minor issues, and turn them into needless controversy. Ọṣun lè tèǹtẹ̀ – Osun is ahead.”
Her comments come after a viral video from the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi’s 10th coronation anniversary, where Adeleke paused after briefly singing during his speech. Mrs Tinubu then approached the podium, signalled to him, and whispered something — a moment that stirred debate online.
This statement is her first public reaction since the footage spread widely.
