Former Anambra State governor and ex-Minister of Labour and Employment, Senator Chris Ngige, has been arrested in Abuja. Reports indicate that armed EFCC operatives picked him up from his residence on Justice Mohammed Bello Road.
Initial claims suggested that Ngige had been kidnapped in Abuja, but his media aide, Fred Chukwuelobe, dismissed those reports, confirming instead that he is in EFCC custody.
“Former Governor of Anambra State and immediate past Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr. Chris Ngige, is with the EFCC. More details later,” Chukwuelobe stated.
The EFCC has yet to release an official statement, so the reason for the arrest remains unclear at the time of this report.
This development comes just days after Ngige’s convoy was attacked by armed men in Anambra State. A police officer was shot during the ambush, and several others were injured. Ngige was not in the vehicle at the time of the attack.
