Comedian Russell Brand has publicly taken aim at his ex-wife, Katy Perry, over her reported relationship with former Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.
Brand, 50, made the remarks on Thursday, December 18, while speaking at a Turning Point USA event in Phoenix. During his address, he referenced Perry, 41, and Trudeau, 53, while talking to the audience.
“I was married to Katy Perry. I still love her, and I’m glad her mum is here to hear me say that,” Brand said. “I was fine with Orlando Bloom, but Justin Trudeau? Come on. Don’t put me in the same category as that guy,” he added, using harsh language to criticize the former Canadian leader.
Perry and Brand were married from 2010 until 2012, when Brand filed for divorce.
The singer later began a relationship with actor Orlando Bloom after meeting him at a Golden Globes afterparty in 2016. The pair got engaged in 2019 but called off their engagement in June 2025 after nine years together. They share a daughter, Daisy Dove Bloom, born in August 2020.
Perry and Trudeau sparked dating rumours in July 2025 after they were seen together in Montreal. They later made their first public appearance as a couple in October 2025 at a cabaret show at Crazy Horse Paris, held to mark Perry’s birthday.
Meanwhile, earlier this year, Brand was charged with five counts relating to assault and rape allegations involving four women. The accusations first became public in September 2023 following a joint investigation by The Sunday Times, The Times, and Channel 4’s Dispatches.
One of the women alleged she was raped in southern England in 1999, while other alleged incidents were said to have occurred in London in 2001 and between 2004 and 2005.
Brand has denied all allegations, stating that he “absolutely refutes” the claims.
