Six Family Members Die in Domestic Fire Outbreak in Ghana

A family has announced burial arrangements for six relatives who lost their lives in a tragic domestic fire in Ghana.

The victims, including a three-month-old baby, were occupants of a seven-bedroom self-contained apartment located at Abyakwa Manhyia in the Ashanti Region.

According to the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), a distress call was received at about 12:53 a.m. on December 22, 2025. Firefighters from the Nkawie Fire Station arrived at the scene around 1:15 a.m. and encountered an intense blaze that was spreading rapidly. The response was later reinforced by personnel from the Twedie Fire Station.

The fire was brought under control at approximately 1:57 a.m. and completely extinguished by 3:22 a.m. However, the residential building was totally destroyed.

Firefighters recovered six bodies from the debris. The remains were handed over to the Ghana Police Service for further investigation, according to a statement signed by the Ashanti Regional Public Relations Officer of the GNFS, DO II Peter Addai.

The fire service said its personnel successfully prevented the flames from spreading to nearby properties. It also expressed condolences to the bereaved family and confirmed that investigations are ongoing to determine the cause of the fire.

The GNFS advised the public to avoid installing heavy burglar-proof doors and windows that could trap occupants during emergencies.

The deceased were identified as Aku Daa (36), Sarah Kusiwaa (31), Vivian Asantewaa (19), Bawuah Osaa Mavis (18), Queenster Adepa (6), and Parin Obrempong (three months). They will be laid to rest at Mpasaso on Thursday, January 8, 2026.
