Renowned Nigerian music icon Innocent Idibia, popularly known as 2Baba, has weighed in on the debate surrounding mediocrity in the music industry and the tendency to label some artists as “wack.”
Speaking during a video broadcast, the African Queen hitmaker dismissed the idea of “wack artists,” stating that every piece of music is intentionally created to evoke emotions and connect with a specific audience. According to him, how well a song is received often depends more on promotion and commercial strategy than on artistic quality alone.
“Every music is made to stir an emotion and create a certain vibe. There is no such thing as a wack artist,” he said. “That is why many artists considered wack are sometimes more financially successful than highly talented ones. They understand that success is not just about the art, but how the art is marketed.”
2Baba further explained that no song can appeal to everyone, regardless of how talented the artist may be. He emphasized that music naturally finds its audience, and those who resonate with it will appreciate it, while effective marketing and promotion play a crucial role in expanding its reach.
