President Bola Tinubu has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to defeating terrorism and banditry, assuring Nigerians that security agencies are working relentlessly to restore peace nationwide.
The President spoke on Wednesday night at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, while hosting leaders of the Ogbia community in Bayelsa State. He said the government would sustain intensified security operations while expanding development efforts in the Niger Delta.
Tinubu acknowledged the persistent security challenges across parts of the North-West, North-East and North-Central, but stressed that the government was making progress through arrests, prosecutions and the disruption of criminal networks.
He told the delegation that although the challenges were many, the armed forces were pressing forward and victory was certain, describing their efforts as crucial to restoring stability.
Beyond security, Tinubu assured the Niger Delta community that his administration would not neglect development in the oil-producing region. He highlighted ongoing infrastructure and social interventions and praised the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) under its Managing Director, Dr Samuel Ogbuku.
The President admitted that past governments had failed to adequately serve the Niger Delta but said his administration was determined to pursue progress through constructive engagement with host communities. He cited projects such as solar-powered streetlights, which he said were already improving economic and social life.
Tinubu also commended former President Goodluck Jonathan, an Ogbia indigene, describing him as a good leader and citizen deserving of continued honour.
Responding to requests from the delegation, the President promised to address ecological challenges like erosion and to consider key infrastructure proposals, including a bridge he described as vital for economic growth. He also appealed for legislative support to speed up project delivery and sustain economic recovery.
He said Nigeria’s economy had emerged from a difficult period and that the focus now was to ensure that improvements translate into real benefits for ordinary Nigerians.
In response, Ogbia leaders pledged political support for Tinubu ahead of 2027, thanking him for appointing Ogbuku as NDDC Managing Director and inviting the President to visit the community for a major cultural event.
