Two suspected members of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) have been arrested in Lagos State.
According to Premium Times, the suspects, identified as Modu Gana and Ibrahim Dugge, were apprehended by operatives of the State Security Services (SSS) on Sunday, December 21, 2025.
A security source familiar with the operation said the arrests took place in Apapa around 8:45 a.m., and the suspects are currently being held for interrogation.
The source disclosed that intelligence reports indicated the suspects had fled the insurgency-hit North-East and relocated to Lagos.
When contacted, an official of the SSS media unit said the arrests had not yet been officially reported to them. The agency has maintained a low-profile media approach following the redeployment of its former spokesperson, Peter Afunanya, in line with its covert operations policy.
As of press time, the purpose of the suspects’ presence in Lagos remained unclear, with no evidence suggesting they were planning an attack in the state. However, security experts note that ISWAP has been attempting to expand its operations beyond the North-East region.
