Senegal avoided a stunning upset at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, coming from behind to defeat Sudan 3-1 in their Round of 16 match on Saturday evening.
Sudan took an early lead in the sixth minute when Aamir Abdallah Yunis curled in a brilliant opener. However, the Teranga Lions turned the game around before halftime, with Papa Gueye scoring twice in the 29th and 45th minutes to put Senegal ahead.
Ibrahim Mbaye sealed the victory in the second half, ensuring Senegal’s progression to the quarter-finals.
They will now face the winner of the Tunisia vs. Mali Round of 16 clash for a place in the semi-finals.
