Resident Doctors to Restart Strike Action on January 12

The National Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) has announced plans to resume an indefinite strike from January 12, 2026.

The decision follows resolutions reached at the association’s Emergency National Executive Council meeting held on Friday, as NARD seeks to push for the full implementation of its outstanding demands.

In addition to the planned strike, the association disclosed that it would embark on nationwide protests over unresolved welfare issues affecting doctors, with centre-based demonstrations slated to take place in hospitals across the country.

The development was contained in a statement posted on X and signed by NARD’s President, Dr Mohammad Suleiman.

NARD recalled that it had earlier warned of a possible nationwide shutdown of medical services due to the Federal Government’s failure to honour the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) previously signed with the association.

According to the doctors, the planned strike is a direct consequence of the Federal Ministry of Health and the Federal Government’s continued disregard for several deadlines agreed upon for the implementation of the MoU.

The association had suspended its earlier indefinite strike on November 29, after 29 days of industrial action, following the signing of the agreement, which committed the government to meet NARD’s demands within four weeks.
