Obidient Movement to Stay in ADC Regardless of Presidential Primary Outcome — Tanko Yunusa

Tanko Yunusa, National Coordinator of the Obidient Movement Worldwide, has stated that the movement will remain in the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and respect the outcome of the party’s presidential primary, even if Atiku Abubakar emerges as the candidate.

Yunusa made the remarks on Thursday, January 1, during an appearance on Channels Television’s The Morning Brief. He emphasized that the Obidient Movement is committed to democratic principles and will make its decisions within the ADC through democratic processes.

He added that while the movement supports former Anambra State governor Peter Obi, it will compete fairly with other aspirants, including Atiku Abubakar, expressing confidence that Obi’s widespread support will give him the edge.

“As democrats, we will contest fairly with all candidates based on democratic principles. We believe that, in the end, Peter Obi will prevail, given the large support base he brings to the ADC,” Yunusa said.

When asked what the movement would do if Atiku wins the primary, Yunusa replied, “We will stay in the party and support it democratically, giving it the life it requires.”

He further noted that the ADC began gaining national traction following Obi’s involvement, describing the party as a vehicle set in motion by Obi’s entry.

“With all due respect to the ADC, it gained momentum when people rallied behind it. The ignition came yesterday, and that is the excitement Peter Obi has brought to the party,” he said.

Yunusa highlighted that the Obidient Movement consists of informed, active youth demanding transparency and good governance, adding that millions of supporters are ready to join the ADC.

“They have clearly expressed their intent and are prepared to move in their millions into the ADC. This is an affirmation of our position,” he said.

He also criticized the current government for using what he called “negative executive power” against Nigerians and encouraged citizens to exercise their “positive executive power” through democratic participation.

Yunusa confirmed that several prominent political figures attended a recent gathering in Enugu supporting the move to the ADC, including former governors, senators, House of Representatives members, and former principal officers of the National Assembly.

He specifically noted that Victor Umeh has joined the ADC, acting as the master of ceremony at the Enugu event and actively participating in proceedings.

“The person originally meant to be the MC did not attend, so Senator Victor Umeh stepped in, which speaks volumes. He even moved the motion that was unanimously affirmed by everyone present,” Yunusa said.

He also confirmed that Enyinnaya Abaribe has officially joined the ADC, with more defections expected in the coming weeks as supporters obtain party membership cards.

Yunusa concluded that the growing local and international support of the Obidient Movement positions it as a major force within the ADC ahead of upcoming elections.
