The Ogun State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of the driver of a Lexus Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) in connection with the road accident involving British-Nigerian boxer Anthony Joshua.
The confirmation was made on Thursday, January 1, by the command’s spokesperson, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, via a post on his official X (formerly Twitter) account. He noted that investigations into the incident are still ongoing.
“The driver of the Lexus SUV involved in the Anthony Joshua accident is currently in custody. Investigations are ongoing,” Babaseyi stated.
Anthony Joshua and two of his friends were travelling along the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway when the accident occurred at Makun in Ogun State. Reports indicate that the Lexus SUV they were in collided with a stationary truck, resulting in the instant death of his friends, Latif and Sina, while Joshua sustained injuries.
The deceased had reportedly travelled to Nigeria to spend the Christmas holiday with Joshua before the tragic crash brought their visit to an abrupt end.
