The Federal Government has formally withdrawn the criminal charges filed against Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, who represents Kogi Central Senatorial District.
A notice of discontinuance was entered in suit number FHC/ABJ/CR/195/2025, between the Federal Government and Akpoti-Uduaghan. The notice, dated December 12, 2025, was filed in accordance with Sections 108(1), 108(2)(a) and 108(5) of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act (ACJA), 2015.
The document stated that the Office of the Attorney-General of the Federation had decided to discontinue the prosecution in the matter.
It was signed by the Director of Public Prosecutions of the Federation, M.B. Abubakar, alongside the Assistant Chief State Counsel, Aderonke Imana, and filed on behalf of the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi.
Court records indicate that the Federal High Court in Abuja received and endorsed the notice on December 15, 2025, before certifying it as a true copy on December 18, 2025.
Meanwhile, on January 1, Senate President Godswill Akpabio revealed that he had instructed his legal team to withdraw all defamation-related lawsuits he had instituted against individuals.
In December 2025, Akpabio had filed a N200bn defamation suit against Akpoti-Uduaghan at the Federal Capital Territory High Court in Abuja, following allegations of sexual harassment made against him.
