Super Eagles captain Wilfred Ndidi has been thrown into mourning following the death of his father, Sunday Ndidi, in a road accident in Delta State.
Reports indicate that the retired military officer was involved in a crash on Tuesday in Umunede and was later confirmed dead after being rushed to a hospital in Agbor, Delta State.
Ndidi’s Turkish club, Beşiktaş J.K., confirmed the tragic news in a statement shared on its official X (formerly Twitter) account.
“We are deeply saddened by the tragic loss of our footballer Wilfred Ndidi’s beloved father, Sunday Ndidi, who passed away in a fatal traffic accident,” the club said.
“May Allah grant mercy to the deceased. We extend our heartfelt condolences to Wilfred Ndidi, his family, and loved ones.”
Ndidi recently led the Nigerian national team to a third-place finish at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco, where he also scored his first-ever international goal for the Super Eagles.
