Three Arrested Over Killing of NSCDC Officer in Kano

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Kano State Command, has arrested three suspects in connection with the killing of one of its officers, AbduRauf A. Shariff, who was attacked while attempting to stop a criminal act.

Confirming the incident, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SC Ibrahim Idris Abdullahi, said the 29-year-old officer was on duty at the Court Road outpost in Kano when he was assaulted.

According to Abdullahi, the suspects, who allegedly operated in large numbers and were armed, were engaged in phone snatching and other criminal activities when the officer tried to intervene.

“Sadly, the criminals were armed and used their weapons to fatally injure him while he was carrying out his lawful duty,” he said.

He added that NSCDC operatives who arrived at the scene were able to arrest three of the suspects along with their weapons, and they are currently in custody.

Abdullahi noted that the corps is working closely with the police to track down other suspects who escaped after the attack.

The deceased officer, AbduRauf A. Shariff, has since been laid to rest in accordance with Islamic rites after a medical examination.
