President Bola Tinubu’s frequent foreign trips have continued to draw reactions from opposition figures, who argue that the travels distract from pressing domestic responsibilities.
According to Naija News, the President is currently on an official visit to Türkiye. A statement by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, said the trip is aimed at strengthening bilateral cooperation in key areas such as security, education, social development, innovation, and aviation.
Onanuga explained that the visit builds on the official trip to Nigeria by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan in October 2021, which helped deepen diplomatic relations between both countries.
He added that President Tinubu’s visit will include high-level political and diplomatic engagements focused on mutual interests in finance, communication, trade, and investment. Meetings between top officials of both nations are also scheduled, alongside the signing of several memoranda of understanding covering scientific research, energy, technical cooperation, media and communications, military collaboration, and protocol.
As of January 2026, President Tinubu has undertaken official visits across five global regions — Europe, Africa, the Middle East/West Asia, the Americas/Caribbean, and Asia.
While opposition parties continue to urge the President to scale back on foreign travel, the presidency maintains that the trips are crucial to Nigeria’s economic growth and international partnerships.
