Tinubu Government Targets End of Power Subsidy From 2027

The Federal Government has announced plans to phase out electricity subsidy payments from 2027 as part of ongoing reforms in Nigeria's power sector.

Minister of Power Joseph Tegbe disclosed the plan on Friday during a media briefing, stating that the subsidy would be removed without denying Nigerians the benefits of improved electricity services. He also clarified that there are no immediate plans to increase electricity tariffs.

Tegbe acknowledged the longstanding challenges facing the power sector but assured Nigerians that the Tinubu administration is making significant investments to improve electricity supply across the country.

He said the government is working tirelessly to address the sector's problems, adding that while results may not be immediate, citizens will soon begin to see noticeable improvements in power supply.

The minister expressed confidence that the administration's ongoing reforms and investments would deliver better electricity services despite the existing challenges.
