Stanley Nwabali’s participation in Nigeria’s final 2026 World Cup qualifying playoff against DR Congo is uncertain as the goalkeeper continues to recover from injury.
The Super Eagles are set to face the Leopards in the playoff final in Morocco on Sunday.
Nwabali, who plays for Chippa United in South Africa, completed the full match in Nigeria’s 4-1 victory over Gabon despite picking up an injury late in the game.
Although Udinese goalkeeper Maduka Okoye was ready to come on, Nwabali opted to stay in goal until the final whistle.
On Friday, Nwabali took part in light, partial training, while fellow goalkeepers Maduka Okoye and Amas Obasogie participated fully.
Head coach Eric Chelle is now awaiting a detailed medical assessment before deciding if Nwabali will start in Sunday’s match.
The decisive clash between Nigeria and DR Congo will take place in Rabat, Morocco.
