January 1 Tax Law Rollout Remains On Track — Tinubu

President Bola Tinubu has reaffirmed that there will be no delay in the implementation of the newly enacted tax laws, including those signed into law on June 26, 2025, as well as the remaining acts scheduled to take effect from January 1, 2026.

In a statement personally signed on Tuesday, the President described the tax reforms as a “once-in-a-generation opportunity” to establish a fair, competitive and resilient fiscal framework for Nigeria.

Tinubu clarified that the new legislation is not aimed at raising taxes but at resetting the country’s tax structure, improving harmonisation, safeguarding dignity and strengthening the social contract between government and citizens.

He called on all stakeholders to support the implementation process, noting that the reforms have moved decisively into the delivery phase and that no significant issues have been identified that would justify halting or altering the rollout.

“Lasting trust is earned through consistent, well-considered decisions, not through hasty or reactive actions,” the statement said.

The President reiterated his administration’s commitment to due process and respect for the integrity of laws duly passed, assuring that the government will work closely with the National Assembly to swiftly address any emerging concerns.

He further pledged that the administration will continue to act in the broader public interest to ensure a tax system that encourages economic growth, shared responsibility and national prosperity.
