BREAKING: Police arrest TikToker Peller over reckless driving incident

The Lagos State Police Command has arrested and detained popular TikToker and content creator, Habeeb Hamzat, widely known as Peller, after a viral video showed him driving recklessly and crashing his car during a live-stream.

In a statement issued on Tuesday by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abimbola Adebisi, and made available to PUNCH Online, the police said the arrest followed widespread public outrage over the incident, which occurred on Sunday, December 14, 2025.

According to the command, Peller’s actions posed a serious threat to public safety and required immediate police intervention.

“The Lagos State Police Command has arrested and detained, for further investigation, Habeeb Hamzat, also known as ‘Peller’, following a viral video that surfaced online on Sunday, December 14, 2025, in which he was seen driving recklessly and causing a dangerous road crash while live-streaming, thereby endangering his life and that of other road users,” the statement read in part.

The police described the act as extremely dangerous, noting that it could have led to fatal consequences for both the suspect and innocent members of the public.

The command further disclosed that the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for a thorough investigation.

“The matter is currently under investigation by the SCID. The outcome will be made public, and the suspect will be charged before a court of competent jurisdiction in line with the law,” the statement added.

Reacting to the incident, the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Olohundare Jimoh, issued a strong warning to social media influencers and the general public against using online platforms to engage in or promote reckless and unlawful behaviour.

“The Commissioner of Police strongly cautions content creators, influencers, and all members of the public to refrain from exploiting social media to promote dangerous, reckless, or criminal acts,” the statement said.

He stressed that such conduct would no longer be tolerated, assuring residents that the command remains committed to enforcing the law without fear or favour.

“Such lawlessness will not be condoned, and the full weight of the law will be applied to offenders. The command also urges all road users to strictly adhere to traffic regulations in the interest of public safety,” it added.

The incident has renewed public debate over the growing trend of risky stunts by content creators seeking online attention, with many Nigerians calling for stricter enforcement to deter similar behaviour.

Authorities have repeatedly noted that road traffic crashes remain a major concern in Lagos, often linked to speeding, distracted driving, and disregard for traffic laws, and have vowed to prosecute anyone whose actions endanger lives, regardless of status or online influence.
