President Bola Tinubu has awarded the national honour of Member of the Order of the Federal Republic (MFR) to former Super Eagles captain, William Troost-Ekong. The defender confirmed the honour on Tuesday after receiving his official certificate, following the announcement made the previous night.
Troost-Ekong expressed deep appreciation to the President, describing the recognition as a proud and emotional moment for himself and his family. In a message shared online, the 32-year-old thanked Nigeria for providing him with identity, purpose, and the opportunity to pursue his football career.
He noted that wearing the green and white of the Super Eagles has always been both a privilege and a responsibility, pledging continued support for the national team. As the Super Eagles begin their AFCON campaign, Troost-Ekong wished the squad success and reaffirmed his belief in the team and the nation.
The certificate accompanying his post formally confirmed the honour, with President Tinubu citing Troost-Ekong’s outstanding virtues and dedicated service to Nigeria as the basis for the award.
