Former U.S. President Donald Trump has announced that the United States has carried out military strikes in Nigeria.

Trump made the announcement on Christmas Day, describing the operation as the first of several planned attacks. According to him, U.S. forces conducted powerful airstrikes on terrorist hideouts in Sokoto State, located in northwestern Nigeria. He said the targets were terrorists affiliated with ISIS.

In November 2025, Trump had previously expressed concern over the killing of Christians in Nigeria’s northwest and north-central regions. At the time, he warned that his administration would not tolerate the violence and vowed to strike terrorist groups at their bases.

Following discussions with Nigerian authorities after the warning, both governments reportedly reached agreements on how to proceed. Shortly afterward, the U.S. government announced that it had carried out strikes on terrorist camps in the Sokoto forest on Thursday night.

“In my direction as Commander in Chief, the United States launched a powerful and deadly strike against ISIS terrorist scum in northwest Nigeria,” Trump wrote on his Truth Social account.

He added that under his leadership, there would be no safe haven for radical Islamic terrorism.
