An advance team working for Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Chioma Otti, came under attack by unidentified gunmen near Sam Mbakwe Airport in Imo State on Tuesday, December 2.
The assault happened in the early hours of the morning along the Umuowa–Ihite axis as the three-member team travelled ahead of the governor’s planned movement.
In a statement, the Abia State Government emphasized that Governor Otti’s convoy was not part of the incident and confirmed that no fatalities were recorded.
The statement explained that the three officials from Government House, Umuahia, were en route to the airport when they were ambushed by yet-to-be-identified gunmen.
It added: “In the early hours of today, December 2, an advance team of three members from the Office of the Executive Governor of Abia State, His Excellency Dr. Alex Chioma Otti, on duty at Sam Mbakwe Airport, Imo State, was attacked by unidentified gunmen.
“The attack occurred between Umuowa and Ihite junction, shortly before the Sam Mbakwe Airport Junction in Imo State.
“The public is assured that Governor Otti’s convoy was not involved, and no lives were lost in the incident.”
