Sean “Diddy” Combs’ mother, Janice Combs, has spoken out against the new Netflix docuseries about her son.
In a statement to Deadline, Janice said the four-part series—released on December 2—contains “lies” and “inaccuracies” about Sean’s childhood and family background.
“I am writing this statement to address some of the falsehoods presented in Sean Combs: The Reckoning,” she said. “These misrepresentations about Sean’s upbringing and our family were intentionally included to mislead viewers and damage our reputation.”
She specifically disputed an interview in the first episode discussing the 1991 City College of New York tragedy, where nine people died during a stampede at an event promoted by Sean.
In that interview, Sean’s former friend Kirk Burrowes alleged that he saw Sean slap his mother that day — a claim Janice firmly denies.
“The allegation by Mr. Kirk Burrowes that my son slapped me after the tragic events of December 28, 1991, is completely false,” she said.
She added that using a tragedy to push “fake narratives” and revive Burrowes’ past attempts to gain control of Bad Boy Records was “wrong” and “offensive.”
Janice called for a public retraction of the “distortions” and “misleading statements.”
In the docuseries, Burrowes claims he witnessed Sean lash out at his mother after she questioned whether he had made the right career choices. A title card notes that Sean did not respond to filmmakers’ requests for comment about the allegation.
The series comes amid Sean’s ongoing legal troubles, including federal convictions and multiple lawsuits.
One day before its release, Sean’s spokesperson, Juda Engelmayer, criticised the documentary as a “shameful hit piece,” claiming Netflix used unauthorized, previously unreleased footage. Engelmayer also pointed to producer Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson—longtime rival of Sean—as evidence the project was biased.
Regarding the allegation involving Sean’s mother, Engelmayer declined to address specific claims, saying many featured individuals have personal grievances or credibility issues and that several accusations lack evidence or context.
