Nollywood actress Yvonne Jegede has shared her views on marriage, describing the institution as “overrated” while stating that she is not actively searching for remarriage.
The 42-year-old actress said she remains open to getting married again if it happens naturally, but stressed that she is not intentionally pursuing it.
Jegede made the disclosure during a recent interview on Naija FM Lagos.
“I’m open to remarriage if it happens, but I’m not looking for it. I’ve learned not to say ‘never,’” she said.
She explained that many long-term relationships often fall apart shortly after marriage, noting that the pressure and expectations that come with the marital label can introduce intolerance and strain.
“People date for 10 to 15 years, get married, and then separate within two or three years. Sometimes you wonder why they didn’t just remain unmarried. Once the marriage tag is added, a lot of intolerance sets in,” she said.
According to Jegede, finding love and peacefully cohabiting may be a better option for some people.
SNOW TV NEWS recalls that the actress’ marriage to fellow actor Olakunle ‘Abounce’ Fawole ended in 2019, less than a year after it began.
She had cited financial imbalance and her former husband’s inability to manage or respect her role as reasons for the separation.
In a previous interview, Jegede also revealed that she was the main financial provider in the marriage and expressed regret over prioritising love over financial stability.
