PDP Group Dismisses Fayose’s ₦50bn Allegation Against Makinde as Unfounded

A Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) group in Oyo State, Oyo PDP-Visionaries, has criticised former Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose over his claim that Governor Seyi Makinde received ₦50 billion from the Federal Government as relief funds for victims of the January 2024 Bodija explosion, describing the allegation as false and misleading.

The group made its position known in a statement issued on Sunday in Ibadan and authorised by its coordinator, Qudus Olayide.

Fayose had alleged during a live television interview on Friday that Makinde collected ₦50 billion from President Bola Tinubu while briefing him on the Bodija explosion, but failed to acknowledge or utilise the funds to assist victims who lost lives and property in the incident.

The explosion, which occurred in January 2024, caused widespread destruction in parts of the Dejo Oyelese/Adeyi Avenue area of Bodija in Ibadan North Local Government Area.

Reacting to the allegation, Olayide accused Fayose of attempting to mislead the public by presenting a letter from the Ministry of Finance which, according to the group, merely reflected requests submitted by states and not approval of funds.

The group described it as embarrassing that Fayose allegedly tried to pass off a request letter as proof of fund approval, insisting that Nigerians can clearly distinguish between a request and an approval.

Challenging Fayose to produce concrete evidence, the group urged him to publish documents showing actual approval and release of the funds, rather than what it termed deceptive claims.

In strongly worded remarks, the group accused Fayose of acting out of personal motives and characterised his actions as unserious, warning him against further conduct that could bring ridicule to himself and Ekiti State.

The statement also praised Governor Makinde as a transparent and people-focused leader, cautioning Fayose against distracting the Oyo State governor with what it described as opportunistic and low-level political attacks.
