Residents of Dansadau town in Maru Local Government Area of Zamfara State reportedly attacked a state legislator over claims of neglect and underperformance.
The incident involved Kabiru Mikailu, who represents Maru South Constituency in the Zamfara State House of Assembly. He was confronted by residents while accompanying Governor Dauda Lawal on a landmark visit to the community on Tuesday, December 17, 2025.
The governor’s visit was meant to mark the commencement of major development projects in the area. However, tensions flared as residents accused the lawmaker of abandoning the constituency since his election.
According to the aggrieved locals, Mikailu had failed to visit the community or engage with constituents, even during significant occasions. Some alleged that he neither attended Sallah celebrations in Dansadau nor visited families affected by repeated bandit attacks to offer condolences.
A video circulating online shows the lawmaker being slapped and roughly handled by the crowd, while voices could be heard chanting “bamayi,” a Hausa expression commonly used to signal anger or rejection.
Security personnel were said to have stepped in to calm the situation and prevent the incident from escalating further.
