Former Senator Godiya Akwashiki, who represented Nasarawa North Senatorial District in the National Assembly, has passed away at the age of 52 after a prolonged illness.
A family source confirmed the development to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday in Nassarawa Eggon, stating that Akwashiki died on Wednesday, December 31, 2025, at a hospital in India.
The source described his passing as a major loss to the zone, noting that the late lawmaker was deeply committed to constituency development and empowerment initiatives.
According to the source, Akwashiki is widely regarded as one of the most impactful senators produced by Nasarawa North, citing his purposeful leadership and widespread projects across the constituency. He was also noted as the only senator from the zone to secure a second term in office.
Before his election to the Senate in 2019, Akwashiki served in the Nasarawa State House of Assembly, where he held key positions including Majority Leader and Deputy Speaker.
He was born on August 3, 1973, in Angba Iggah, Nassarawa Eggon Local Government Area of Nasarawa State.
