Political economist Prof. Pat Utomi has declared that he would distance himself from former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi if Obi decides to become someone else’s running mate.
Utomi made the statement on Thursday during an appearance on Politics Today, a Channels Television programme, as reported by SNOW TV. He was commenting on Obi’s recent defection to the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
SNOW TV notes that Obi, along with other prominent Southeastern leaders, officially joined the ADC on Wednesday ahead of the 2027 general elections.
“I can tell you that Peter Obi will contest for the presidency in the 2027 elections. The day he chooses to be someone’s running mate, I will walk away from him. I can say that with certainty,” Utomi stated.
He added, “Another important point for this election is that the Nigerian presidency has, unfortunately, become a retirement post where people expect the state to cover their medical bills. This is unacceptable. Many of the past and current occupants of the office lack the physical and mental fitness to run the country effectively.”
