The Islamic State of West Africa Province (ISWAP) has intensified attacks on Christian communities in Nigeria’s North-East, with reports indicating that the group set ablaze a Christian village in Adamawa State.
A security analyst, Brant Philip, disclosed the incident on Thursday, citing a video circulated by the terror group.
According to Philip, ISWAP released images showing a Christian settlement in Adamawa on fire, accompanied by a statement declaring Christians in Nigeria as targets. The group reportedly claimed that individuals could avoid harm by converting to Islam or paying a jizyah tax imposed by ISWAP.
The attack is widely viewed as a response to recent joint air operations carried out by Nigerian and United States forces against terrorist hideouts in Sokoto State.
It will be recalled that five days earlier, United States President Donald Trump announced that the US military had conducted airstrikes targeting terrorist elements in Sokoto, Nigeria.
