One person has been confirmed dead, while several others sustained injuries in a road accident along the Oshodi–Isolo Expressway in Lagos.
According to The Guardian, the incident occurred at about 6:10 a.m. on Wednesday, December 31, when a Siena vehicle reportedly crashed into a commercial passenger bus.
Officials of the Lagos Neighbourhood Safety Corps (LNSC) said a number of passengers, including two children, were injured in the collision.
An LNSC officer disclosed that the injured victims were promptly rushed to a nearby hospital for medical attention, while the driver of the Siena car was unharmed.
A Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) official at the scene said officers secured the area to prevent traffic congestion and maintain public order.
“Ensuring safety was important to avoid any form of jungle justice against the bus driver. The matter is being handled, and with the police already on ground, it should be resolved shortly,” the official said.
The driver of the passenger bus explained that he was changing a tyre when the Siena vehicle rammed into the bus from behind. He added that he was returning from a church programme at “Ayo ni” in the Sanya area, noting that the deceased was also a member of the same church.
