U.S. immigration authorities have arrested the grand-niece of late Iranian commander Qasem Soleimani in Los Angeles as part of a broader crackdown on individuals with alleged links to Iran.
The suspect, 25-year-old Sarinasadat Hosseiny, was detained alongside her mother, Hamideh Soleimani Afshar, after their permanent residency status was revoked by U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio over alleged ties to the Iranian regime.
Hosseiny had lived in the United States since 2015, initially arriving on a student visa before obtaining a green card in 2023. Despite her family background, her social media portrayed a lavish lifestyle in Los Angeles, with posts showing travels across cities like Miami, Las Vegas, and Alaska, as well as appearances at music festivals and on luxury yachts and private jets.
Authorities revealed that both women’s residency permits were withdrawn shortly before their arrest on April 3.
Her mother had previously made controversial posts online, including support for the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), which the U.S. designated a terrorist organization in 2019.
Qasem Soleimani, a former commander of Iran’s Quds Force, was killed in a U.S. drone strike in 2020. The arrests come amid heightened scrutiny of individuals suspected of having connections to Iran.
However, Narjes Soleimani has denied any link between the two women and her father, accusing U.S. authorities of making unfounded claims.
